Where I See Myself in Ten Years

In media class, we were given a thought-provoking question, “Where will I see myself in 10 years?” I know that many people in this generation do not really look at the future and focuses on the present, I seem to be the opposite.

I’m a naturally neurotic person, so I get worried easily; so I always try my best to lessen the stress and anxiety. It doesn’t help that I am going into the art field for a career where I constantly hear comments about how I will make no money and starve all the time.

In ten years I hope that I will have graduated from college, which will be

The creator of the majority of my childhood. It would be a dream come true if I could work there.

School of Visual Arts, have a Bachelors in Fine Arts in Animation and eventually reside in Florida where I will work in a studio or preferably Disney. If that all happens, it would be a dream come true. Ever since I was little I dreamed of creating my own cartoons and stories.

I know that it will take a lot of work to get to such a position and I am
willing to take the challenge. I don’t want all the efforts I’ve placed thus far to go to waste just because I’m too lazy or unwilling to take on the work load. I will make sure that in the next ten years my goals will be completely fulfilled.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral

My school made all the seniors go to St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Wednesday. Personally I wasn’t too interested and was bored about the idea of going. I guess how I feel about it can’t change now since I was too sick to go. I had a really bad stomachache and I didn’t want to have to sit on a train for two hours by myself at 6 a.m. to go for only an hour long mass.

Like, I have nothing against the idea of the trip, but the execution seems very one-sided on us. It’s difficult enough to wake up in the morning for school but now I would of had to have woken up so much earlier. That wasn’t going to happen when I could barely stand up.

Also another reason I’m not upset about not going is because I do not like the city at all. It’s crowded and dirty and loud. I’ve never liked the city so going there for a trip that I have to pay for out of my own pocket is not going to happen.

I’m pretty sure many students enjoyed the trip and had a wonderful time, but I wasn’t one

I cannot deny that the place looks absolutely gorgeous.

of those people. Although I could not go, I’m fairly certain I would’ve been bored and out of place being in a church of a different religion, in a city I don’t like being in for the whole day. I believe I’m done whining for now.

Media Decades

In media class on Tuesday, April 12th we were discussing the blog assignments, which you’re reading right now. Initially it was a free-form one where everyone is allowed to write about anything they please but to be honest that’s more difficult than a given assignment. You have to think and that’s already too much work for most people, including me.

Back on topic with what assignment that was given to us, my teacher mentioned our lessons. We are currently learning about media and technology of different decades, all the way back to the 16th century, maybe even further. He asked us “if we had the chance or choice, which decade would you venture to?” My answer to that question is simple…

None of them.                                                   apple                I greatly enjoy the technology we have today. Someone must be crazy or really old-fashioned to want to downgrade and revert back to older forms of technology. The technology we have today makes life so much easier I cannot imagine reverting back.

Going back I also won’t be able to do what I love, which is digital art. Without the computers and tablets we have today, I would not be able to draw or hopefully pursue my dream job which is to be a digital animator.

The other decades seem so limited and dull that I would hate to go back to the old ways of no television, listening only to radios, lack of access to information and so on. We have a great thing going on for us right now, of course there’s room for improvement and I would like to not lose it.

Steven Universe Hiatus

Anyone who is a fan of the Cartoon Network animated show Steven Universe knows that it is currently stuck at a standstill. This show constantly goes on hiatus which usually lasts for several months at a time. I’ve never watched a show that goes on hiatus every 10 episodes or so. It doesn’t matter where the story currently is, even at the height of its conflict, it will go on hiatus. Thus making us wait months for the solution.

Don’t get me wrong, I love this show to death. I personally believe its the best animated show currently on television, but the airing format really kills it for me at times. It really breaks the immersion.

It’s probably obvious that it’s not Rebecca Sugar’s (the creator) fault but the network itself. Many people have noticed that Cartoon Network is pushing this new agenda of having a show air new episodes everyday for a week. Steven Universe goes through it often but after those daily episodes (known as Steven Bombs) the show often goes on hiatus after it. Personally I’d prefer the consistency of weekly episodes than a “burst to break to burst” episode format.

There’s also people who believe that the animated show Teen Titans Go is to blame. Cartoon Network loves to push this show before all else. All though I personally do not like this show, I shouldn’t complain. If the kids like it I shouldn’t rag on it when Cartoon Network’s primary focus is to entertain children.

100 Nights

An event at my school recently passed where all the seniors would go to school at night, around 6, and would eat food to celebrate something. To be honest I don’t know the reason, nor do I care to find out. I’m guessing its the seniors celebrating 100 days of school passing or 100 days until graduation, who knows?

100 Nights All I know is that I didn’t go and the reason is that I simply did not want to. It seems a little pointless to have a mid-year celebration, but that’s just my opinion. I’d rather spend my afternoon not dressed up, just relaxing in my ‘jammies’ playing videos games. (Although that’s how I spend most of my afternoons.)

Also this school has a terrible habit of having days where you have to buy a new dress or outfit and then you end up only wearing it for one day, and then you never wear it again. That’s probably my fault though because I don’t go out a lot, let alone go out somewhere dressy.

I also didn’t go due to money reasons. It’s hard enough paying tuition, then I would have to pay for a dress and the entry fee to get into the event (which I truly believe we should not have to pay for, but who cares at this point.) And I personally don’t find it worth it to dress up, eat mediocre food and then go home. Plus none of my friends were going so due to my non-social ways I would’ve just been sitting in a corner eating bacon or something by myself. I’d rather be anti-social in the comfort of my own home.

T.V Shows

Alright, everyone knows that television is literally trash these days. Most shows are lazy reality shows or constant copies of things that were done often in the past. And it doesn’t help that my tastes aren’t really commonly broadcasted or even considered. (But I guess my opinion doesn’t really matter when I watch t.v. like 4 hours per month.)

When it comes to the shows I enjoy I have very specific standards. First off I’m a child at heart so the shows that I would prefer to watch would be animated. It doesn’t have to be cartoony or anime, just anything that’s art and it is animated. It must have a continuous plot or at least tell a decent story per episode, some kind of continuity. And the characters must be likable. I cannot watch a show with terrible, boring or annoying characters. The only show I’ve seen do all these is:

   Steven Universe

la-et-st-steven-universe-20131104-001Steven Universe is a cartoon show that airs on Cartoon Network which was created by Rebecca Sugar and I have to say, it’s pretty amazing. The characters are great and very three-dimensional, especially for a cartoon. The setting that Rebecca Sugar was able to create is very believable and interesting. Everything and everyone has a complex backstory that’s gradually explored throughout the series. I recommend this show to anyone who watches cartoons and is interested in a great story-line.

There have been too many times I have seen crappy and unoriginal shows that run regularly almost every day. Nickelodeon runs practically Spongebob and only Spongebob all day. Cartoon Network has probably only three good animated shows left on it. And I don’t even want to venture into teen sitcom hell which is Disney Channel. (Although I appreciate Gravity Falls and Star vs. The Forces of Evil that still runs on Disney Channel.) Okay.. I believe I’m done ranting about children shows for now.

Hello! My name is Ackella Mattis and a student at Cardinal Spellman High School. I must say it feels rather odd writing this blog entry. I’ve never taken part in any social media throughout my entire life. I have never used Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, etc. you get the point. I’m not a very social person either so this feels really weird.

Although there is something that doesn’t feel weird to me and that’s drawing.

Here’s some summer beach art for you guys who are stuck in the winter cold. Personally I don’t mind the cold but I’ve seen some people go crazy hating winter.

To make this whole blog project feel more natural for me (and a little less painful for the readers), I’ll try to incorporate my art and my ideas into this.

Hopefully I can turn this project into a worthwhile experience.

But that’s enough rambling about my art (for now), it’s time to ramble more about myself. I guess besides the non-talkative part of me I’d say I’m a hard-working student, I make sure I always keep my grades straight A’s. I hope I don’t sound like I’m bragging..

                                         Hey look, It’s me!

Jeez.. this entry is a bit of a mess isn’t it? Hopefully the next one isn’t so abstract and all over the place. So uh.. here’s a self-portrait that I drew a while ago, a picture tells a thousand words right? I’m just going to slink back into the shadows.. Until next time guys, Good bye!
